Ambit is a firm believer in the open source software community.  For a better understanding of open source click here.  We are not opposed to commercial products or companies, we believe a new economy is emerging.  Technology is being commoditized by the minute, which means technology companies need to become specialists in market solutions and not products.  Ambit refers to the new economy as the "Open Source Economy" (OSE).  In the OSE vendors have to focus on Market Trends, Installation, Support, Training, and Enhancement.  After assessing a market we then look for the best open source platform to address that market.

To date we have singled out two open source platforms to become experts in; Asterisk™ and Joomla™.  These are very mature platforms that address a market need and permit enhancement.

Ambit has quickly risen to be one of the largest Asterisk™ specialists in the Southeastern United States with nearly 7,000 handsets in use.  Our Asterisk™ implementations range from 10 users to 1,100 users.  We get a chuckle from resellers of commercial platforms that believe Asterisk™ is a Small Office Home Office (SoHo) platform.  Make no mistake, Asterisk™ is an enterprise grade telephony platform capable of handling extremely complex communications needs.

While it currently is a small part of Ambit's overall business, Joomla™ is an integral part of our platform strategy.  What Asterisk™ is to telephony, Joomla™ is to web precense.  In fact, you are currently interacting with Ambit's Joomla™ platform used to develop our corporate website.  Ambit has even written a call recording system that takes recorded calls from Asterisk™ and organizes and stores them into a Joomla™ intranet.
